Mount Juliet: Captivating and memorable Estate in the rolling pastures of County Kilkenny

Located less than 90 minutes from Dublin in the heart of Ireland, Mount Juliet Estate is a lush getaway featuring world-class facilities to complement a stunning 18-hole golf course.

Designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, Mount Juliet golf course first opened in 1991 and the occasion was marked with a friendly match between Nicklaus and Irish legend Christy O’Connor Snr.

Since that day, with some slight extensions and additional features, Mount Juliet Golf Course has improved an already outstanding layout, in its ongoing pursuit of golfing excellence.

Mount Juliet hosted the 2002 World Golf Championships-American Express Championship, which was won in emphatic style by Tiger Woods as he led wire-to-wire with rounds of 65-65-67-66 to win by one ahead of Retief Goosen. Two years later the venue once again hosted the world’s best players, and this time Ernie Els was the champion with a one-stroke win over Thomas Bjørn. It also hosted the Irish Open three times in succession from 1993-95, won by Sir Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer and Sam Torrance respectively.

Tiger Woods’ declaration that Mount Juliet presented ‘perfect fairways’ and the ‘best greens we’ve putted on all year’, was a rich tribute to the stature of Ireland’s leading parkland golf course.

The 7,300 yard, par 72 layout combines many features – rolling fairways, water hazards, contoured greens – all of which blend superbly into the spectacular landscapes surrounding the unique estate.

Adding to the immaculate course is the newly-opened Paul McGinley Golf Academy, which welcomed the public for the first time in September last year as Ryder Cup-winning captain McGinley hit the first ball at the site to commemorate its opening.

“Mount Juliet Estate has long been a top golfing destination on the world stage. With the magnificent Jack Nicklaus Signature Course on the Estate and my newly designed range – sculpted to provide every shot in the golf bag – it gives a fantastic opportunity for golfers to develop their skills at the Academy or complete quality practice before going out to play,” – Paul McGinley

For 25 years McGinley has been one of the most respected figures in the world of golf, leading Europe to victory in the 2014 Ryder Cup and captaining the Irish Olympic Golf Team in Rio 2016. Now, for the first time, Paul partners with a golf facility in Ireland, working with Mount Juliet Estate to create the first ever Paul McGinley Golf Academy, within which he has redesigned the existing academy, re-configured and updated the facilities and created a specific coaching and fitting centre.

The Paul McGinley Golf Academy provides Mount Juliet with a newly sculpted 15-acre driving range, where all golf course shots can be replicated, including full length fairways, requiring draw and fade shots.

Facilities also include two putting greens and a short game area, and the Academy is using the most advanced teaching software, Trackman 4, allowing all aspects of the game to be developed and taught.

All instruction is based around Paul’s playing philosophy and the instructors chosen are selected and trained by the McGinley team.

The estate also offers a luxury hotel, an impressive equestrian centre, a luxurious spa, a leisure centre and extensive practice facilities. The manor house offers 31 individually designed rooms, with truly classical interiors and the Lady Helen Michelin-starred restaurant.
