Keeping up with Kevin Kisner and his new +5 handicap

The 2019 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Champion, Kevin Kisner, is not having as much success at home as he’s had during his career. Given a +5 handicap, the American is yet to win a match in the tournament he’s set up at his home club.

Jeff Neubarth tuned in live on Callaway Golf’s YouTube channel hosting a podcast with Kisner who kept us up to date on his current situation.

“I’ve treated this time as a mid-career hiatus,” he said, “I’ve taken the time to work on things you don’t really want to work on during tournament season, golf is all year round now so you don’t normally have time to make technical changes and feel comfortable with it.”

Luckily for Kisner, Golf Clubs in South Carolina are still open for business, he said: “Golf is essential in South Carolina.”

“I’m doing a lot of work in the gym, I go hit some balls and can play some shots that I know I don’t have to hit next week because I don’t need to, it’s time to try and make some changes.”

“Most of the time I’m just trying to keep the club in my hand, that’s the key, it makes you feel so much better, you can’t just take 15 days off.”

Kisner, who has been on the PGA Tour since 2011 spending a lot of time away from his family, seems to be enjoying time at home, changing light bulbs and taking out the trash doing everyday chores.

“I noticed the other day there was a random girl on my couch, turned out to be my wife. I hadn’t seen her in a while.”

“It’s different being at home, I haven’t slept this many consecutive days in my bed for the past 10 to 15 years”

The 2019 WGC Match play champion has put together a match play style tournament using the nets at his home club, but his Match Play win-streak has come to an end, having not won one match due to the club giving him a +5 handicap.
