Robert MacIntyre came agonisingly close to lifting the US Open trophy at Oakmont – and it was his putter doing the heavy lifting all week.
After a run of inconsistency on the greens earlier this season, the Scot made a bold post-Masters switch to the TaylorMade Spider Tour, and the results were immediate. The high-MOI design, trusted by multiple Major champions, offered the stability and roll MacIntyre needed to thrive under intense pressure. He holed clutch putts throughout the week, showing a new level of confidence with the flatstick that nearly earned him a maiden Major.

Putter change
“It’s been a bit of a journey with the putter this year,” MacIntyre admitted. “But the Spider just feels right. I’m trusting my stroke again – and that’s everything at a US Open.”
The rest of his bag is a blend of modern muscle and time-tested favourites. The Titleist TSR2 driver remains in the lead role off the tee, while his TaylorMade AeroBurner 3-wood – a near-vintage 2015 model – continues to defy the trend for flashy upgrades. That club’s been in and out of his set for years, but it’s back in for 2025.
His TaylorMade Stealth 2 hybrid and Titleist 620 CB irons round out the core of his set-up, giving him shot-shaping ability and control.
