How Dubai golf is adapting to shifting demand

Across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Europe, championship golf courses have evolved beyond the traditional 18 holes and clubhouse model. On-course villa accommodation—once a novelty—has become an expected feature at leading destination resorts, catering to golfers seeking full immersion rather than simple proximity.

The Middle East has been watching closely. With grassroots participation across the region up 223% since 2012, according to the R&A’s Global Participation Report, and international visitors increasingly choosing the UAE as a golf destination, operators are now responding to shifting demand.

From proximity to immersion

Dubai Creek Resort’s decision to introduce Solenna Villas marks the first time a UAE golf facility has fully committed to an integrated on-course accommodation model. The 18-villa collection, curated by Park Hyatt Dubai, is set directly within the fairways of the 32-year-old championship course.

Each villa spans between 200 and 225 square metres and features private plunge pools, 24-hour butler service and immediate access to the course, driving range and practice facilities. A private central putting green forms the heart of the enclave, reinforcing the connection between accommodation and play.

Chris May, CEO of Dubai Golf, frames the March 2026 opening as evolution rather than innovation. “We felt there was a gap in the market in Dubai,” he says. “There wasn’t really any intimate accommodation on the golf course itself. This is the perfect place for a golfer to stay, and the quality matches what our customers expect.”

Demand backed by data

The timing reflects confidence supported by tourism and participation trends. Dubai welcomed 15.7 million international visitors in the first nine months of 2025—a five per cent year-on-year increase—according to Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism figures. Golf and lifestyle tourism continue to play a significant role, with venues such as Topgolf at Emirates Golf Club attracting sustained, high-volume engagement.

That growth has placed pressure on tee-time availability across the emirate, particularly during peak season. Integrated accommodation offers a practical solution, simplifying planning for visiting golfers by aligning lodging, access and practice facilities in one experience.

Evolving an iconic venue

Dubai Creek’s move carries additional significance given its heritage. The only golf club featured on a national banknote, the venue has welcomed many of the game’s biggest names and recently returned to the professional spotlight through the Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour calendar.

As construction progresses toward a Q1 2026 opening, Solenna Villas position Dubai Creek Resort not as a pioneer, but as a regional adapter of a proven international formula—one aligned with a golf market that continues to grow, mature and demand deeper, more immersive experiences.
