Dubai’s golf scene has once again been recognised on the international stage with the Emirate being awarded Golf Destination of the Year at the 2023 International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) Awards.
Dubai is one of five territories to win the award this year, joining the likes of Cyprus, Los Cabos, South Carolina and Thailand.
Established in 2000 and recognised as the most prestigious award within the international golf tourism industry, this honour proves the importance of the sport to the region as it continues to grow in significance under the desert sun.
The UAE has already hosted four events this season on the DP World Tour including the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
Jumeirah Golf Estates will also host the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai this coming November to once again crown the recipient of the Harry Vardon trophy.
“It’s great to see relatively small golf destinations such as Cyprus, Dubai and Los Cabos in the mix with the established giants such as South Carolina and Thailand,” said Peter Walton, IAGTO Chief Executive.
There were also two other awards for Dubai organisations with Dubai Golf receiving an IAGTO Outstanding Service award under the “Golf Resorts, Courses and Hotels” banner.
Desert Gate Tourism were also recognised in the “Destination Management & Transport” category for their work within the golf tourism industry.
