The UAE golf season has kicked off with plenty of excitement, already delivering standout moments in both the amateur and professional scenes.
In recent days, plenty of storylines have emerged with the standout being the UAE Boys excelling under pressure in Tunisia to secure medals.
From the country’s rising stars to some of the more seasoned pros, the competition is already heating up and it looks set to continue as the season gets into full swing once more. Here’s what’s happened so far…
Pan Arab medal success
The UAE Boys 18 & Under team claimed the Silver medal at the 2024 Pan Arab Ladies and Youth Golf Championships in Tunisia.
The standout team was represented by Rayan Ahmed, Mohammad Skaik and Neyl Cherrat with all three also finishing well in the individual categories.
Ahmed managed to clinch silver in the individual with rounds of 71-70-74 while Skaik finished sixth and Cherrat in ninth place.
Back-to-back for Bell
Jackson Bell claimed his second triumph of the 2024/25 Emirates PGA season with a one-shot victory at the Lincoln DG Pro-Am at Jumeirah Golf Estates over the weekend.
The tournament, which was played on the Earth course, was the second of the season and Bell secured victory with a round of 69 to beat Brendan Els by a shot.
“Delighted to get back to back wins,” Bell said on Instagram. “40 foot birdie putt on the last to win. Great start to the season.”
The next event of the season is scheduled for Wednesday 9th October at Dubai Creek, the venue which hosted this year’s Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour.
Grenville-Wood on the charge
Joshua Grenville-Wood, the UAE’s leading pro golfer, advanced his bid for the Challenge Tour Grand Final by tying for fifth at the weather-disrupted Swiss Open.
The 26-year-old shot rounds of 72 and 68 at Golf Saint Apollinaire, closing the event five strokes off the pace set by winner Euan Walker.
“Rollercoaster of a week here in Switzerland,” Grenville-Wood posted on Instagram. “Was a tough week mentally but hung in there and put in a good final round to finish T5 and move myself back up the order of merit.”
The result saw the Dubai resident move up ten places to 57th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings and a step closer to booking his spot in the Tour’s Grand Final.
Fleetwood comes close
Dubai-resident Tommy Fleetwood came close to winning his eighth career DP World Tour title at the weekend in Madrid.
The Englishman carded rounds of 69-69-70-66 to finished in a share of third place on 10 under par.
“What an amazing event in an amazing city with amazing fans,” said Fleetwood after his final round. “Thank you so much for the support.”
The Ryder Cup star is next set to tee it up this week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
