Tyrrell Hatton Keeps His Cool To Win Desert Classic

“It feels amazing,” declared Tyrrell Hatton, moments after lifting the iconic Dallah Trophy at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. “This is one of the events you dream of winning. To add my name to the list of champions is truly special.” The Englishman delivered a stellar performance in front of record-breaking crowds, securing his fifth Rolex Series title with a final-round 69 at the prestigious Majlis Course.

HERO DUBAI DESERT CLASSIC FINAL LEADERBOARD

Hatton’s victory, celebrated with a trophy presentation by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group, marked another milestone in his illustrious career and captivated fans at one of golf’s most iconic events.

A Day of Drama at the Majlis Course

Starting just one stroke behind overnight leader Daniel Hillier, the 33-year-old Englishman wasted no time drawing level. A birdie on the second hole, courtesy of a fortuitous bounce from the left rough, set the tone for a gripping final day. Despite an early lead from Hillier, Hatton took control on the fifth hole, capitalising on a bogey from his nearest rival.

The Ryder Cup star continued his charge, doubling his advantage with a nine-foot birdie on the sixth hole. A stroke of luck came on the seventh, where his ball narrowly avoided water, allowing him to save par. As the final round unfolded, both players showcased resilience, with Hatton’s remarkable wedge shot on the 16th setting up a tap-in birdie to solidify his lead.

Despite a tense final hole, Hatton maintained his composure, sinking a five-foot putt to finish at 15 under par, edging Hillier by a single stroke. “It feels amazing,” said Hatton. “This is one of the events you dream of winning. To add my name to the list of champions is truly special.”

Stellar Performances in a Star-Studded Field

Laurie Canter secured third place with a final-day 68, finishing at 13 under. Meanwhile, four-time winner Rory McIlroy and Denmark’s Niklas Nørgaard shared fourth after both carded impressive 66s. Notable mentions also include Shaun Norris and Tom McKibbin, who finished tied for sixth, and Guido Migliozzi, sharing eighth with David Micheluzzi.

A Celebration of Golf and Community

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic was more than a showcase of elite golf. From the Junior Dubai Desert Classic to the Creators Dubai Desert Classic, the event highlighted inclusivity and innovation. Czech golfer Louis Klein made history with a Junior Course Record of 9-under 63, while social media influencers like Mac Boucher and Inci Mehmet captivated younger audiences.

Tournament Town added another layer of excitement, offering activities for fans of all ages. Simon Corkill, Executive Tournament Director, emphasized the event’s broader significance: “This week we’ve not only celebrated world-class golf but also Dubai’s vibrancy and forward-thinking vision. Our focus on sustainability and innovation has been at the forefront, making this tournament a true community celebration.”
