Shane Lowry has praised the set-up at the DP World Tour Championship, while others have been critical of the deeper rough this year. The 2019 Open champion grew up playing in the challenging conditions at Portrush and values the importance of course management.
“The course is set up brilliantly,” commented Shane Lowry. “This is the way golf should be. It should be penal for missing fairways, and there should be a premium on driving the ball in the fairway, and that’s what it is this week.”

Shane Lowry’s Weekend Plan
Lowry is going into the weekend just three shots back of Antoine Rozner and knows how to get the job done in this region, having won the 2019 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and coming close at the DP World Tour Championship in 2017 when he tied for second, just one shot behind Jon Rahm.
Cautious Plan Of Attack
“I’ve been in the tournament every year since 2011 and have come close to winning, so hopefully I can go one better,” added Lowry.
Like every player in the field, Lowry is cautious of the rough but knows how to manage a score. He narrowly missed the semi-rough on the 14th and could only wedge the ball out sideways.
“It’s very, very penal out there. You need to drive the ball in the fairway, but when you do hit it in the fairway, there are a lot of chances, and the greens are receptive and rolling really well.”
