Adrian Otaegui has moved into the top ten of the DP World Tour Rankings in partnership with Rolex after a record-breaking win at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters.
The Spaniard went into the final round with a six-stroke cushion and never gave the chasing pack an opportunity to catch him, firing four birdies and a single bogey in a closing 68 at Real Club Valderrama to finish on 19 under par, setting a new tournament record.
“I feel so happy to have my first win in Spain in front of these crowds on my favourite golf course in Spain,” said Otaegui, who moves up to tenth from 24th in the DP World Tour Rankings.
“It’s unbelievable. I’m happy with everything, the week was perfect.
“I just tried to play my game, tried to play as if I had just teed off being all square. Just tried to beat the others, stay focused and play every hole with the same intensity.”
The four-time DP World Tour winner is now set for a fourth appearance at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, and a first since 2020 after missing out on the top 50 last season.
The top 50 players on the DP World Tour Rankings at the conclusion of the Nedbank Golf Challenge will secure a spot at Jumeirah Golf Estates on November 17-20.
Joakim Lagergren finished second on 13 under par, which saw the Swede make significant strides up the Rankings, jumping 83 places to 44th
Min Woo Lee’s third place finish elevated him 24 spots into the all-important top 50 in 38th, while Angel Hidalgo, who shared the lead at the halfway stage, climbed 42 places to 88th with his fourth place finish, as he looks to book his spot in the fifth and final Rolex Series event of the season for the first time.
Towards the top of the Rankings, Rasmus Højgaard jumped into the top 20 after finishing fifth, while Jordan Smith, a former winner of the Challenge Tour’s Ras Al Khaimah Golf Challenge, moved up one place to 13th after sharing sixth with Thriston Lawrence and Marcus Kinhult.
The DP World Tour moves on this week to the Mallorca Golf Open at Son Muntaner Golf Club, Palma, Mallorca, Spain.
The event, which is set to take place from October 20-23, is one of only three tournaments left on the schedule for players to secure their spot in top 50 of the DP World Tour Rankings.
