The MENA Tour’s MG Keyser – I feel like I belong at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic

The MENA Tour’s 2019 Journey to Jordan champion gets his second European Tour start underway tomorrow (23rd) at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and MG Keyser is not fazed by playing alongside the golfing elite in front of a home crowd.

“I’ve got mixed emotions but I’m definitely excited to play especially as I’ve been in Dubai for so long,” said Keyser. “I’ve got my friends and family out here with my best mate on the bag. It’s going to be a good week and I’m looking forward to it.”

“I’ve played on the Challenge Tour, Asian Tour and at last year’s D+D Real Czech Masters (European Tour event) so I definitely feel like I fit in. I made the cut in the Czech Republic and played well over the weekend so I do feel like I belong here.”

Keyser, who won twice on the MENA Tour last season with victories at the Al Zorah Open and the Dubai Open Presented by Turkish Airlines, which included a spellbinding second round 61 – a course and MENA Tour record, is no stranger to Emirates Golf Club having lived here for the past five years and believes the course is in fine condition ahead of the 31st staging of the tournament.

“I’ve played here so many times but the course this week is the best that I’ve ever seen it,” said Keyser. “All of the boys are saying the same thing that this is the best that it’s been for a long while. You have to keep it in the fairways as the rough is so thick; you could lose a ball anywhere!

“I’m hoping to be around for the weekend, that’s the only target I’ve set right now. I’m just going to go out there and have a good time. If I can get in the top ten that gets me into Saudi so that would be a nice bonus. Let’s see how my skills match up with the big boys over the course of the week.”

Keyser gets his tournament underway at 8.50am on Thursday 23rd January alongside Benjamin Poke and Worldwide Golf columnist Adri Arnaus.
