Five more LIV Golfers set to resign DP World Tour membership – report

Five more high-profile LIV Golfers are close to resigning their DP World Tour membership with the new prospect of further £500,000 / $630,000 fines.

Ryder Cup heroes Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood recently quit the DP World Tour last week following an arbitration hearing that ruled in favour of the European-based circuit.

And as reported by The Telegraph, the remaining DP World Tour members who continue to play on the Saudi-backed LIV Golf could face more financial punishment for playing in LIV events.

The report names Henrik Stenson, Martin Kaymer, Paul Casey, Brandon Grace and Charl Schwartzel as players next likely to resign their membership.

By handing their DP World Tour membership back in, they won’t face additional financial punishment for future starts in LIV Golf events.

However, it comes with other consequences, such as being ineligible to participate or captain a Ryder Cup team.

Westwood, Garcia and Poulter are now currently unable to captain Team Europe in the future, something which seemed inevitable at one day given their huge contributions.

And Rory McIlroy recently voiced his opinion on the trio being unable to captain Team Europe, describing it as “a shame”.
