Could Tiger Woods Replace Greg Norman At LIV Golf?

Greg Norman, the prominent face of LIV Golf since its inception nearly three years ago, may be facing a significant shift in his role. According to a report by the Sports Business Journal, the Australian golfing legend could be replaced as LIV Golf’s Chief Executive Officer, with suggestions that his responsibilities may be reassigned.

Norman was appointed as commissioner and CEO when LIV Golf was launched in late November 2021. Since then, he has been a central figure as the league has completed three seasons. However, discussions of a potential alliance with the PGA Tour, facilitated by LIV’s backer, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), have circulated over the past two years.

The Sports Business Journal reports that the PIF has engaged the services of London-based search firm Odgers Berndtson to identify a successor for Greg Norman. Should a new CEO be appointed, it remains uncertain what role Norman would assume within LIV Golf, although he is expected to remain with the league, potentially retaining his position as commissioner.

The search firm has reportedly been exploring candidates for several months, and one individual contacted during this process was Brett Yormark, commissioner of the Big 12 Conference. In a brief conversation with Sports Illustrated, Yormark noted that the call “lasted about five minutes” as he is not inclined to leave his current role.

Tiger Woods and PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan have been two main figures trying to get a deal resolved with the PIF.

Tiger Woods

While many candidates could potentially take the helm at LIV Golf, one name stands out as a potential game-changer: Tiger Woods.

Woods has played a crucial role in the behind-the-scenes negotiations between the PIF and the PGA Tour. However, the question remains: would he be willing to collaborate with Greg Norman?

$1 Billion

The Saudis are said to have offered Woods nearly $1 billion to join LIV Golf, but the 15-time Major champion has faced ongoing struggles with injuries that have limited his ability to compete. Nevertheless, he may be tempted to reconsider, potentially stepping into a role that could unite the professional game and help establish a global tour.
