UAE to the Masters Tournament: How much will it cost?

Travelling to Augusta National to watch the Masters Tournament is a dream of any golf fans. Although it’s been postponed, Jordan Smith works out how much it would cost to go to the event from the UAE. At least you have a bit more time to save up for this now it will be later in the year…

If you’re a spontaneous life-liver wanting to tick off a Major item on your bucket list with a potential trip to the Masters, here’s how much it will cost you to travel from Dubai for one week:

Travel

There are several airports to choose from when travelling into Augusta – which is located on the central eastern border of the U.S. state of Georgia. The closest airport is Augusta (AGS), which is approx. 9.2 miles away from the golf course, perfectly positioned for the players flying in, courtesy of their luxury private jets and lavish transport vehicles. However, for us mere spectators behind the ropes, we may only have the option to fly-in further afield. Here are the following airports you can choose from:

Columbia (CAE) 60.4 miles away;

Charleston (CHS) 123.1 miles away;

Charlotte (CLT) 140 miles away;

Atlanta (ATL) 147.1 miles away.

Luckily for Dubai residents, there’s an option to fly from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Augusta (AGS), and will take 21 hours with two stop-offs, one in London and a second in Orlando; the flights will cost you 4,367 AED or $1,118 Dollars per person. Pretty expensive right? Considering you haven’t found a place to stay yet, let’s look into the accommodation situation.

Accommodation

Depending on whether you’re easy-going when it comes to hotels, or whether you prefer a high-end property to really make it a trip of a lifetime – that’s all down to you. But to make this a memorable week to remember at a reasonable, realistic price we have found the perfect venue. For seven nights, based on two people with a short 1.8 mile commute to the course, 2.380 AED or $647 Dollars each will accommodate you in an hotel nearby.

Tickets

Now you have your flights and accommodation covered, you need the Golden Ticket. This is where it can get pricey so you might need to take a deep breath before deciding. Depending on whether you wish to attend one day or the full week, the choice is yours. The tickets will cost the following from third party sellers:

Practice day: 2,454 AED or $668 Dollars;

Sunday: 4,513 AED or $1,228 Dollars;

Thursday – Sunday: 20,101 AED or $5,473 Dollars.

Yes, you did read it correctly. For the price of a ticket for the four days, you could actually invest in a one-year membership at a golf course in Dubai. So, where’s the good news? On a positive note, once you have finally got inside the event, the food and beverages are reasonably priced. In fact, you could order one of every item from the menu and it would only cost you $56.50 Dollars equivalent to 207 dirhams.

Total cost

To break It all down, the total cost of travelling from the UAE would come to 9,201 AED with only one day at the Masters or 26,848 AED with four days at the event before you add up the transfer cost and how much spending money you’re going to need. Here’s the breakdown:

Flights: 4,367 AED or $1,118 Dollars

Accommodation: 2.380 AED or $647 Dollars

One day ticket: 2,454 AED or $668 Dollars

Thursday – Sunday: 20,101 AED or $5,473 Dollars

For the trip of a lifetime to claim ‘bragging rights’ that you have been to the Masters Tournament, the price to go for just one day’s spectating doesn’t seem too bad. If you’re not satisfied with one day, you’d better start saving now for 2021.
