Tiger Woods is reportedly in discussions to participate in the US Senior Open in two years’ time with the aid of a golf cart. The tournament, which is exclusively for over-50s, has been tipped to alter its rules to accommodate Woods. The golfing legend turns 50 in December 2025, making him eligible to compete in the event.

Cart lifeline
Woods has recently participated in tournaments using a golf cart, following injuries sustained in a horrific car crash two years ago. He underwent ankle surgery last year and has since struggled to walk around courses. There are stringent regulations regarding when players can use a cart during tournaments.

Rule adjustment
However, Steven Stricker, the tournament host, has hinted that the rule could be adjusted if Woods decides to compete in the US Senior Open.
“Let’s make sure he can play. You hate to make special rules, but if we can get him out here with a cart, let’s do it, you know what I mean,” he said. “We should do everything we can.”

TV Ratings
Meanwhile, PGA Tour Champions president Miller Brady believes the US Senior Open’s television ratings could surpass those of the PGA Tour. Ratings for Phil Mickelson’s victory in 2021 exceeded those of the PGA Tour’s Shriners Children’s Hospital Open in the same week.
“Taking a cart changes everything for him. Interest from both fans and sponsors is going to be through the roof. I think there’s a good chance that Champions Tour ratings can top the PGA Tour when he decides to play. And what else is he going to do?”
He continued: “Will our ratings go up? Absolutely. Could I see NBC and Golf Channel wanting to put an event on the network? Yeah. Tiger would have to commit early enough for us to make that happen.”
