At the start of the year the TGL virtual golf series was due to be launched and give fans fresh approach on engaging with the game. That was until a hurricane blew the air supported roof off at the Sofi Center, Palm Beach State College, along with Tiger and Rory’s dreams of taking the fight to LIV Golf. The TGL dream received another blow when both Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton pulled their support and moved over to the Saudi funded league.
Tiger has risen from the ashes on numerous occasions and it came as no surprise that TGL will be going ahead in January 2025, after plans are underway to upgrade the Sofi Centre with insulated walls and more importantly as steel supported roof. The changes will not increase the seating capacity but the building will be able to withstand a category 5 hurricane.
Tiger and Rory’s business partner in the venture, Mike McCarley, made a presentation to Palm Beach State College’s Board of Trustees late last month looking for an amendment to the lease for the facility,
With Rory back putting out fires that he could be tempted to join LIV Golf, it will be interesting to see how the TGL virtual golf series develops throughout the year. When you consider that Tiger Wood’s EA Sports game sold more than 25 million copies and gaming is market was worth $350 billion last year, TGL could reach a far wider audience than the Tours and LIV Golf combined.
