Henrik Stenson targeting Masters success after best performance last year

Sweden’s greatest ever (male) player has his sights set firmly on a Green Jacket after suffering years of frustration at Augusta National.

Henrik Stenson posted his first career top ten at Augusta last year after posting all four rounds under par and this year he’s on a mission to keep improving.

“When I missed the cut in 2017 I said that if I can take the things that I picked up that week forward,  I can have a good week the next year.

“I came back – and I didn’t have my best game with me in 2018 (video below) – but I was putting pretty solidly and I managed my way around the course well.

“I had a good preparation and did enough of the little things well to accumulate a good finish, so I’m excited to get back there. If I can do all the things that I did well in 2018, and bring my game up to where I know it can be in terms of ball striking, then I believe I can challenge and be one of the guys in the mix.

“You’ve seen my record –  it’s my least successful Major out of the four. It’s the Major that I have performed the worst in over the years but the one I want to perform the best in going forward.

“I know I need to push the ball out there a little bit more. You’ve got to be aggressive at the right times, and you’ve got to know when not to go for it.

Accepting that there’s such a small margin between a really good chance for birdie and a guaranteed bogey is a big key at Augusta. I feel like I’m pretty pleased with what I’ve learned over the years, so I pretty much know where to hit it and what to do on every pin location and every hole.”

Stenson’s only Major triumph so far came three years ago at The Open.
