Sharjah Senior Golf Masters Presented by Shurooq seeks volunteers

Golf lovers are being invited to enjoy a unique ‘inside the ropes’ experience at the upcoming Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq by working as volunteers at the Staysure Tour event.

Taking place at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club from Thursday 8 to Saturday 10 March, the second running of the tournament, which follows last year’s inaugural edition, will welcome some of golf’s biggest names from years gone by such as former Ryder Cup players Des Smyth, Ronan Rafferty and Costantino Rocca, Gordon Brand Jnr and Barry Lane.

Jobs are available as caddies, marshals and scorers for what promises to be a unique, fun filled and rewarding experience and one which will contribute signicantly to the smooth running of the event (responsibilities allocated based on volunteers’ availability over the week).

“Everyone involved in the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters will once again wholeheartedly welcome the help of the UAE’s golfing community at the event’s second running,” commented Martin Duff, Director of Golf at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club.

“Volunteers always play a vital role in the overall operation and success of these high profile events whether it be marshalling, helping with TV, live scoring or caddying”.

“The event requires around 80 people for each of the three tournament days to fulfil all the responsibilities. We are delighted to confirm that we once again have the very experienced Martin Geskes confirmed as Chief Marshal and fellow member Ramli Sulaiman undertaking the role of Caddie Master. Martin and Ramli will select and contact suitable parties within a week of the applications closing date (February 12th).  In addition last year’s official starter, now Golf Club Vice Captain, Sanjoy Das will once again supervise proceedings on the first tee.

“Furthermore GEMS Founders School in Dubai have offered overwhelming support largely thanks to Head of Secondary Ian Plant who has enlisted a host of students as well as a few eager parents”.

Nick Tarratt, Director of the European Tour International, said:

“We will welcome the help of the UAE’s golfing community at the event’s second edition of the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq. The Emirates Golf Federation will be the sanctioning body for this Staysure Tour event once again and they will be encouraging support from their golfing membership in the UAE.

“We look forward to welcoming both experienced volunteers and new volunteers. As long as they are keen and have a golf knowledge we welcome them.’

Marshals and scorers receive shirts, caps and meals as well as a complimentary round of golf in return for their assistance, while caddies will be paid by the players for their support.
