This year’s Scottish Open is taking place at Gullane Golf Club, one of many stunning courses on East Lothian’s coastline. Lets take a look at the test the pros face this week before they head to Carnoustie…

HOLE 1 - WINDYGATE
PAR 4 - 390 YARDS
This hole only needs one bunker – Mother Nature does the rest. Hitting this narrow fairway is vital, even if it means playing more for accuracy than length.

HOLE 2 - RACECOURSE
PAR 5 - 523 YARDS
A strong drive down the left sets you up for a second shot into the right side of the fairway, which will open up the green.

HOLE 3 - ISLAND
PAR 3 - 164 YARDS
This narrow green has trouble at the front so be sure to carry your ball well over the front bunkers.

HOLE 4 - MURRAY'S HILL
PAR 4 - 450 YARDS
A generous fairway so drive with confidence to the centre right. The next shot will need to be hit long and straight if it is to find the putting surface on this difficult hole.

HOLE 5 - ROUNDEL
PAR 4 - 337 YARDS
Accuracy here pays dividends so stay out of the bunkers. Hit the right side of the green and the slope may give you a better birdie opportunity.

HOLE 6 - QUEEN'S HEAD
PAR 4 - 398 YARDS
One of the best views in golf. Keep your drive straight and let the hill help your distance. Enjoy a low-running shot into the green if you fancy a wee change.

HOLE 7 - KING'S CHAIR
PAR 4 - 471 YARDS
This hole offers a real challenge. A good drive and a well-placed second shot to the front of the green is required.

HOLE 8 - CORBIE
PAR 3 - 194 YARDS
There are eight bunkers to avoid on this classic par 3. Hit the green and you will not be far from the flag for your birdie putt.

HOLE 9 - THUCKET KNOWE
PAR 4 - 466 YARDS
A good solid drive is required to hit this green in regulation. A slight down slope just before the green helps give those needed yards on the approach.

HOLE 10 - MAGGIE'S LOUP
PAR 4 - 471 YARDS
Watch out for the two bunkers just over the hill on the left. Avoid these and you will gain extra yards. More bunkers lie in wait for errant approach shots.

HOLE 11 - THE VALLEY
PAR 4 - 480 YARDS
A great hole full of risk and reward. Thread your tee shot through the bunkers
and hit the long narrow green for a birdie chance.

HOLE 12 - HOLE ACROSS
PAR 3 - 178 YARDS
An exacting tee shot is required to hit this green. Err on the side of going long to avoid the many bunkers.

HOLE 13 - THE SHELTER
PAR 4 - 478 YARDS
A par here is always a good result. Drive it long and left of centre to open up the approach to this subtle green.

HOLE 14 - JOVEY'S NEUK
PAR 4 - 433 YARDS
This is hole 7 on course No.2 and has a thin fairway. Two straight shots are required with five bunkers protecting the green.

HOLE 15 - HOPETOUN
PAR 4 - 424 YARDS
An intriguing slight dog-leg left that slopes right will be the new 15th hole, but normally plays as the 8th of No. 2 and is now being played from a new tee.

HOLE 16 - PUMPHOUSE
PAR 5 - 599 YARDS
Playing from a new Championship tee, the further you hit, the narrower it gets, so plan well. The challenge continues when you get to one of the most undulating greens at Gullane.

HOLE 17 - TRAPRAIN
PAR 3 - 194 YARDS
Again, as with the previous par 3s, all the trouble lies at the front, so be up, and if you are lucky, you will get a helping hand from the bank on the left.
