Over the past few months Golf YouTuber Peter Finch & Dubai Teaching Pro Andy Carter have been getting into the routine of going to the gym and exercising. So not to bring their progress to an abrupt halt with the shutdown of gyms and the introduction of a lockdown, the #GaryPlayerx10Challenge came about.
The challenge consists of:
- Sit ups,
- Push ups,
- Squats
- Triceps Dips
The aim is to increase each exercise by 10 reps everyday for 30 days.
The duo are now into day 7 of 30 so are doing 70 reps of each exercise. They must be starting to feel the ‘burn’ more than the first few days? “It’s funny because Pete wanted to start Day 1 at 50 reps of each exercise! I said absolutely not, let’s start on 10 – so we did,” says Andy Carter – who’s a Teaching Professional at the Pete Cowen Academy, Dubai.
“Using the time-lapse setting on the camera phone we have been filming ourselves each day doing the exercises and uploading them onto Instagram stories and Twitter.”
Day 1 of the @garyplayer x10 Challenge. Me and @carters_golf adding 10 reps of press ups, sit ups, squats, dips for 30 days.
By the end we’ll be doing 300 each day! Will we last the distance? Join us if you wish with #GaryPlayerX10Challenge in honour of golf’s original athlete pic.twitter.com/CS9rWK0eIY— Peter Finch (@PeterFinchGolf) March 25, 2020
The first tweet by Perter Finch was retweeted than no other than The Black Knight himself – Gary Player. This trending challenge been a brilliant way to encourage others in the social media realm to get involved and take it on themselves.
“Each day more and more people are joining us on the journey,” Carter adds. “Some starting from where we are up to, others starting from 10. As they update us, we retweet and share their stories to a wider audience to encourage more to follow suit.
“The majority of our following are golfers so these exercises are great not only for a full body workout but for strengthening key areas of the body for the golf swing.
Yep Day 5 was tougher!! Had to split the push ups and dips!
Over to you @PeterFinchGolf & everyone else who is joining us. I love that more and more each day are jumping in board #GaryPlayerX10Challenge @garyplayer pic.twitter.com/x0edCYEleu— Carter’s Golf (@carters_golf) March 29, 2020
Golf coaches aren’t usually renowned for their physique and this challenge will be brutal when they get to 300 reps for each exercise. Does Carter think they can succeed?
“It is definitely getting harder,” says Carter with a smile. “I’m not the strongest anyway so from 60 reps onwards I’m going to turn the workout into a circuit and once we hit 100 reps, I’ll be splitting it into two separate workouts!
“I haven’t come up with a plan for 300 reps for exercise yet!”
