Pete Cowen has seen a profusion of memorable performances from the stars he coaches over the years so it would seem an almost impossible task to pick out the most standout display. Darren Clarke, Louis Oosthuizen, Graeme McDowell, Danny Willett, Brooks Koepka, Henrik Stenson and Gary Woodland have all won Majors working under Cowen. Which performance was the best, though?
“There was so much hard work over the years that went into Stenson winning his first Major at the 2016 Open Championship,” says the Yorkshireman. “He had near misses over the previous 10 seasons so when he finally played that well and did what he did, it was so impressive and memorable.
“However, I think he played better when he won the DP World Tour Championship and sealed the Race to Dubai in 2013. Stenson shot 25-under which is a tournament record and hit 69 out of 72 greens in regulation. Then he nearly holed his second shot on the 18th with his trusty three-wood.
“That was as good as any golf I’ve ever seen.”

In 2013 ‘The Iceman’ became the first man to win both the Race to Dubai and FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour in the same season. This was an unbelievable feat that probably will never be repeated.
