Troon International provide golf maintenance updates for Abu Dhabi clubs

The three Troon-managed golf clubs in Abu Dhabi will each undergo only one period of summer renovation, rather than two, Cluster Director of Agronomy, Clinton Southorn has confirmed.

In a video chat with Senior Golf Operations Manager Matt Waters, Southorn outlined that work will undergo at Yas Links from July 19-23 and Abu Dhabi Golf Club from August 23-27, while Saadiyat Beach’s renovation had already taken place from June 21 – 3 July.

“It’s been an interesting few months, there’s been plenty of challenges thrown up and it’s been an on-going learning experience, but there’s been some positives,” said Southorn, on trying to maintain the golf courses at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Yas Links and Saadiyat Beach during the lockdown.

“Communication has been the key, internally, in terms of organising the staff on site due to the restrictions that were in place.

“Historically there’s always been two renovations in the summer but this year there’ll only be one on each course, which is important for the members to know.

“The idea behind it is to have the golf courses at a better standard when they open, and as we have to work through the social distancing protocol the closure time at each club would be roughly the same length of time as if we were doing two sets of renovations.

“We have less staff on site, but will using better machinery we can achieve the same targets.”
