The social media world goes beserk for greatest golfing comeback in history

Tiger Woods’ victory at Augusta was nothing short of magical and has got the whole world talking, both golf fans and non golf fans alike, as the 43 year old captured his first Major since 2008.

The American, who has overcome four back surgeries as well as colossal personal problems off the course, overturned a two-shot deficit heading into the final round at Augusta National as he carded a two under score of 70 to finish 13 under par overall – one shot ahead of the chasing trio of Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele.

This helped him win his 15th Major – and his fifth title at Augusta – which leaves him three short of Jack Nicklaus’ coveted Major record.

It was a momentous spectacle for social media with the event being streamed live on Facebook in the UAE rather than on OSN, and the historic victory caused a number of A-class celebrities, sporting stars and even the President of America, Donald Trump, to express their delight and react on social media to Tiger’s stunning win.

Story: Why missing OSN Masters coverage caused chaos in the UAE

Here we pick out our favourite tweets for what is being dubbed ‘the greatest sporting comeback of all time’:

Many people wrote off Woods’ chances of ever even competing in another Major, never mind winning one, a few years ago when he was struggling to pick up a ball from the hole because of his back problems. It will be fascinating to see how he kicks on now. Is a return to World No.1 out of the question? One thing we have learned this week, never doubt Tiger!
