Rayhan Thomas off to a flyer at the World Amateur Team Championship

Dubai born hotshot Rayhan Thomas got his Indian team off to the perfect start at the World Amateur Team Championship, also known as the Eisenhower Trophy, after posting a sublime round of nine under par on the opening day at Carton House, Dublin.

Thomas carded an outstanding six birdies on his opening nine holes before picking up two more shots on the 10th and 13th. After dropping his first shot of the day on the par three 16th, Thomas sensationally made eagle on the 17th to sign for a spellbinding 64. The teen sensation currently sits on top of the leaderboard for individual scoring as well leading his national team to third in the standings.

The WATC is conducted by the International Golf Federation (IGF) and is the most prestigious team championship in amateur golf. The event is held every two years and brings together golfers from all geographical zones, which include the Asia Pacific, the Americas, and Europe – Africa. The format is simple, the best two scores from teams of two or three players are calculated every 18 holes of stroke play. After four rounds or 72-holes, the team with the best score (or the lowest amount of stokes) are the winners.
