Fitzpatrick and Foster Split After Six-Year Partnership

Matt Fitzpatrick’s turbulent start to 2025 has led to a shock split with his long-time caddie, the legendary Billy Foster. The news was confirmed via Foster’s social media, with the veteran bagman implying that the decision was Fitzpatrick’s.

The former US Open champion has struggled for form this season, missing the cut at The Players Championship after rounds of 78 and 72. In six PGA Tour starts this year, the Englishman’s best finish has been a tie for 22nd. Foster had been scheduled to caddie for Fitzpatrick in around half of his events, including next month’s Masters, but the duo have now abruptly parted ways.

All Good Things Come To An End

Reflecting on their time together, Foster – who has previously caddied for Seve Ballesteros, Lee Westwood, and Darren Clarke – posted: “Well, after six great years all good things come to an end. This game never stops frustrating and infuriating you! Unfortunately, times change, and ultimately, it’s the caddie or the coach who has to accept results are not good enough. When you stop enjoying what you’re doing, it’s time for a change. Thanks, Matt – we had a great run, and who knows where the next chapter will go. Onwards and upwards.”

Foster famously endured over 40 years on tour without a major-winning player before Fitzpatrick’s dramatic US Open triumph at Brookline in 2022. At the time, the Sheffield star hailed his caddie as the greatest of all time, saying: “This means the world to Billy. It’s unbelievable for him. I know it’s something he’s wanted for a long, long, long time. To do it is incredible.”

Their partnership also yielded notable victories, including Fitzpatrick’s triumph at the 2023 RBC Heritage and the DP World Tour Championship but with the Masters looming, all eyes will be on Fitzpatrick’s next move as he looks to rediscover his best form without Foster by his side.
