Justin Rose calls for Jon Rahm’s 2025 Ryder Cup inclusion despite LIV Golf uncertainty

Former World No. 1 Justin Rose believes Jon Rahm is essential for the European Ryder Cup team in 2025, despite uncertainties surrounding the Spaniard’s eligibility.

Rahm’s decision to join LIV Golf for the 2024 season has cast doubt over his future in the prestigious team event despite being a key member for Europe in recent editions.

With the next Ryder Cup scheduled for September 2025 at Bethpage, Rahm’s participation remains unclear due to his ties to the Saudi-backed tour.

“No matter where the world rankings say he is or the golf that he is competing against, we know what a great player he is,” Rose said, who played alongside the 29-year-old last year in Rome.

“My point is you want him on the team. There is a pathway for him to play the Ryder Cup if he wants it.

“I think that’s all the DP World Tour can do, and they have their interests to protect, and I still think that it is a doable situation should the player want to choose to do it.”

Since joining LIV Golf, Rahm has dropped from World No. 3 to his current rank of 14, despite securing top-10 finishes in several high-profile tournaments.

This decline is primarily due to LIV Golf not awarding world ranking points, significantly reducing Rahm’s chances of automatically qualifying for the biennial event.

If selected to compete next year, it would mark his fourth Ryder Cup appearance.
