2024 Masters Final Round Preview – Will Scheffler get the job done?

Scottie Scheffler is in the driving seat at the 2024 Masters with the 27-year-old holding a one-shot lead heading into the final day.

The World No. 1 has been in fine form yet again at Augusta National, carding rounds of 66, 72 and 71 to sit on seven under.

The American now needs just one more solid round to win his second Green Jacket following his triumph back in 2022.

Can he do it? His lead is slender, but considering how incredible he’s played over the last two years it would be surprising if he didn’t complete the task at hand.

However, his closest challenger is Collin Morikawa – a specialist in the Major championships – who is one shot back on six under par.

The 27-year-old is in the hunt for his third career Major following his Open and PGA Championship wins, and will go one step closer to completing the career grand slam with a Masters victory.

Morikawa’s most recent Major win came at the 2021 Open Championship

It wouldn’t be the first time he’s come from behind to win a Major on the final day either, as he started two back from Dustin Johnson at the 2020 PGA Championship – a tournament he won.

If he manages it again, he will join the likes of Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth as players in the modern era with three of the four Major titles to their name.

Scheffler is undoubtedly the firm favourite, but Morikawa has the pedigree of a champion and this tournament is far from over.

Away from these top two are a host of other players in the hunt, many of which looking for their first Major.

On five under and in third place is Max Homa who is historically a poor performer in golf’s biggest events. He has just one top-10 finish in 17 Major starts.

However, the World No. 11 recently finished T-8 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational so is in decent form.

Homa’s best finish came at this event in 2022 (T-43)

Ludvig Aberg is another realistic contender with the Swede on four under, which is hugely impressive considering this is his first Masters appearance.

The 24-year-old is now in with a great shout of becoming the first player since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 to win on his Masters debut.

A shot further back is Bryson DeChambeau on three under who is looking to add a Masters win alongside his 2020 U.S. Open victory.

From a local perspective, 2023 DP World Tour Championship winner Nicolai Højgaard is two under and Dubai-resident Tommy Fleetwood is T-9 on one under par.

The Englishman has a lot of work to do if he is to claim the Green Jacket, but he has history of coming from behind on the final day.

The Ryder Cup star famously overturned a six-shot deficit to win the 2019 Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Overall, the final round promises excitement with a tightly packed leaderboard. The last group of Scheffler and Morikawa is scheduled to start at 10:35 PM UAE time.

Tee Times (Final 3 Pairings)

Group 30 – 2:35pm local time – Scheffler & Morikawa

Group 29 – 2.25pm local time – Homa & Aberg

Group 28 – 2:15pm local time – DeChambeau & Schauffele
