Scottie Scheffler reveals Masters plan following ‘special’ win at Bay Hill

World Number One Scottie Scheffler has revealed he has no plans to head to Augusta National early following a “pretty special” win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Sunday.

Scheffler stormed to five-shot victory at Bay Hill to reaffirm his position at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings, with the American now in great form ahead of the first Major of the year.

“Yeah, I think this one’s pretty special,” said Scheffler in the immediate aftermath of winning on Sunday. “Like some of y’all had mentioned, it had been awhile since I won.

“I did win in the Bahamas, but as far as a PGA Tour event, it had been almost a year, and so there had been a lot of chatter about my game and the state of where it was at.

“It was nice to kind of come in here with a good mental attitude and to perform well under pressure and I think today’s round was really special for me going forward.”

With the Masters now just a month away, many players will be planning their preparation ahead of the trip to Augusta.

In the past, several competitors have famously travelled to the venue throughout the entire year to see the course and get some early practice in.

However, the 2022 Masters Champion has a different schedule and revealed he doesn’t plan to make the trip early like some of his fellow pros.

“So I’ve never really been one of the guys that goes up to Augusta throughout the year, really just from a time perspective,” added the 27-year-old.

“I like to take advantage of the time we have at home. Hadn’t made any plans to go up to Augusta before the tournament.

“I’ll play next week at THE PLAYERS, have a week off, play Houston, and then another week off, and then we’ll head up there on Sunday, so, normal prep.

“I played the week before the Masters once, that was enough. I don’t think that playing the week before that tournament was good for me. I went in a little bit tired.

“You got to have your legs to play that golf course, so taking the week off before and showing up ready to go.”

Scheffler will tee it up this week in The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass which begins on Thursday.
