Jordan Spieth has admitted the creation of LIV Golf has influenced the PGA Tour in their decision to revamp their schedule.
The PGA Tour recently announced a further change to their product from 2024 onwards which will now see eight of their leading events feature smaller fields with no 36-hole cut.
It’s a move which has brought widespread comparison to the new controversial Saudi-backed breakaway circuit which follows a similar model.
However, the three-time Major Champion insisted the changes are for the better of the PGA Tour.
“I would be lying if I said that we would have gone through this without LIV,” said Spieth.
“But at the same time, we haven’t mentioned them in any of our discussions on what we think’s best for the Tour.
“The Tour has been all ears. It’s been a player-friendly, player-organised situation. It’s been honestly pretty fun to be a part of.
“I hope that we can kick it off the right way and don’t have to make too many adjustments to it because the main thing now is trying to get it as close to right the first time as possible.”
Spieth is currently playing in this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational and sits T-5 after round one following an opening 68.
