Bryson DeChambeau withdraws from the PGA Championship

Bryson DeChambeau has withdrawn from this week’s PGA Championship as he continues his recovery from surgery on his left wrist.

The 28-year-old fractured a bone in his hand and injured his hip when he slipped over while playing table tennis, forcing him to pull out of the Saudi International in February.

The American underwent surgery on his left hand days after missing the cut at The Masters but looked likely to add to only his six worldwide starts this year at Southern Hills Country Club.

After playing a practice round on Tuesday, DeChambeau posted on Twitter afterwards that he had “held up nicely” and “let’s see what tomorrow brings”.

But DeChambeau announced yesterday that he had decided to withdraw.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to WD from the PGA Championship,” he announced on Twitter.”I want to make a full return when I am 100% ready to compete at golf’s highest level. Thank you all for the continued support!”

His place in the field has been taken by fellow American Denny McCarthy.
