DeChambeau had some crazy stats (both good and bad) in Rocket Mortgage Classic win

Bryson DeChambeau can’t keep himself out of the headlines recently. He had a pop at the cameraman this week for videoing him at moments which could ‘ruin his brand’ and then cruised to a three-stroke victory in the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This is the American’s sixth career win and seventh straight top 10. It’s helped him climb to seventh in the world but the best thing about it are the statistics that proves DeChambeau’s not just a beast off the tee. However, there is room for improvement in some aspects of his game.

Strengths

DeChambeau led the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, and not only led in driving distance, too, but his 350.6-yard average for two measured holes was the highest number by a winner in the ShotLink era.

On multiple occasions he attempted to drive the green on a par-4, including Sunday when he opted to let playing partner Troy Merritt hit first on the 399-yard 13th hole as he waited for the green to clear.

DeChambeau became the first PGA Tour player since 2004 to lead a tournament in driving distance, along with shots gained off the tee and putting.

Weakness

While leading the field in driving distance and multiple strokes-gained categories, he ranked 70th out of the 70 players who made the cut in proximity to the hole.

As it turned out, that was in part because DeChambeau essentially broke the PGA Tour’s ShotLink measurements with his length off the tee so we will let him off for this.

Here’s what the 26 year old had to say about the triumph.

“This is a little emotional for me because I did do something a little different,” DeChambeau said.

“I changed my body, changed my mindset in the game and I was able to accomplish a win while playing a completely different style of golf. And, it’s pretty amazing to see that. I hope it’s an inspiration to a lot of people.”
