Max Faulkner was awarded £300 for winning The Open Championship in 1951 at Royal Portrush. According to the Office for National Statistics composite price index, today’s prices in 2019 are 3,015.06% higher than average prices throughout 1951, meaning Faulknerís prize would have been worth £9,345.18 in 2019.

 

 

 

Harry Vardon holds the record for most Open Championship victories (6) after taking the title in 1896, 1898, 1899, 1903, 1911, and 1914. 

 

 

 

 

Francesco Molinari became the first Italian to win one of golf’s four Majors after sealing a two shot victory over Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and Kevin Kisner at Carnoustie last year.

Rory McIlroy holds the course record at Royal Portrush after he posted a spellbinding 61 around the famed links course when he was just 16 years old. McIlroy’s round consisted of nine birdies and one eagle at the North of Ireland Championship in 2005.

 

 

 

 

 

Only two players finished under par the last time the tournament was hosted at Royal Portrush in 1951: Champion Max Faulkner on three-under-par and Antonio Cerda on one-under-par.
