Returning to the capital once again as an HSBC Ambassador, tennis legend Tim Henman held a tennis clinic in the Championship Village for budding young players.

After a professional tennis career spanning over 15 years, Henman now turns his talent to promoting his sport and the value of keeping active. The ex-British No. 1 hit the court with over 30 youngsters, teaching them the basics of the game in a fun and dynamic way.

Speaking about being back in the capital, Henman said: “I’ve been lucky enough to be an HSBC Ambassador for some time now. I’m a golf addict and it’s really nice to be back here, playing some tennis with the kids and also being in the Golf Zone.”

Henman also spoke about The Championship Village, a place he has seen get bigger and better every year: “There are slightly different twists each year,” he explained.

“It’s such a great place for the kids, who can come and try all the sports. The tennis area has a Wimbledon feel to it so they can come on to the court, whack a few balls around and hopefully enjoy playing the game.

“It’s really important to have this cross promotion of sport. I think with the young kids it’s about giving them the opportunity and the accessibility to try new sports. Golf is a game for life – there are so many different aspects to it that you can enjoy.”

One such youngster who got the chance to play on court with Henman was 12-year-old Mohaned. He said: “It was a really great experience for me. I was under a bit of pressure because if I hit the ball out, I was out! But I really enjoyed the tennis, even more so because my mum used to play too.”

Friday at the Championship Village sees the return of the ever-popular Ladies Day, with its highly contested annual Best Dressed Competition.

Judged by Emirates Woman magazine, fashionistas have the chance to win a trip to New York Fashion Week. Meanwhile, fan-favourite ‘Wear Red Day’ returns on Saturday, giving those who wear red free entry and a chance to win fantastic prizes.

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council and will take place from 19 – 22 January 2017 at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
