Young holds on but Rory makes his move

Cameron Young managed to rally his game during the third round of the Dubai Desert Classic, after making the turn at Emirates Golf club in 37 and losing his lead to Rory McIlroy.

Young regrouped on the back nine and managed to card three birdies and no drop shots to take a two-shot lead over McIlroy and Adrian Meronk going into the final round.

Though the buzz at Emirates Golf club was all about Rory, who wasn’t at the races during the opening two rounds, but he came out firing today, and drained an eagle putt on the last to light up the packed grandstands.

It’s well known that professionals rarely go super low for two successive rounds, but can Rory close out for a fourth title or will the demon’s come out to play?

Rory has the advantage over Young having mastered the Sunday pins three times before but if Cameron gets on an early hot streak McIlroy will be forced into taking pins on.

Having said that if Young and McIlory get embroiled in a match play tussle, it could leave the door open for Meronk who is also two shots back and knows how to get over the winning line.

The only other two players that could join the party are the 2018 champion Haotong Li and Rasmus Højgaard but to pull a five-shot lead back from a player ranked 25th in the world would require Young to move backwards and round in the very low 60s.

There are so many ways this might play out but to have three or more players tied at the top with just a couple of holes to play is what we are hoping for. As Emirates has been home to some dramatic finishes over the years and the iconic 18th might have the final say once more.
