Tiger Woods will no longer host the 2025 Genesis Invitational, following the recent passing of his mother, Kultida Woods.
In an emotional statement shared on Instagram on Monday, 10 February, the 15-time major champion admitted he is “just not ready” to participate.
“I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mum would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss,” Woods wrote. “Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Mum’s passing.”
The 49-year-old was due to make his long-awaited return to PGA Tour action at Torrey Pines on 13 February, marking his first competitive appearance since The Open and subsequent back surgery last September.

Losing His Biggest Supporter
Woods confirmed the passing of his mother in a heartfelt social media post on 4 February, describing her as “a force of nature” and “his biggest fan and greatest supporter.” Kultida Woods was 81.
“She was quick with the needle and a laugh,” Woods shared. “Without her, none of my personal achievements would have been possible. She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie.”
Kultida had been seen supporting her son as recently as late January, attending a TGL match in South Florida.
He has often credited his mother for his signature Sunday red, a superstition born from junior golf when he suffered back-to-back losses wearing blue—switching to red soon after and never looking back.
While Woods hopes to return to action soon, for now, the golf world sends its deepest condolences to the 15-time major winner and his family during this difficult time.
