Whoops! Tiger’s 99-Yard Shot Falls 100 Yards Short

Tiger Woods endured what he called “one of the most embarrassing moments” of his career after a major yardage miscalculation derailed his latest appearance in the TGL. The 15-time major champion, competing in the innovative indoor golf league he co-founded with Rory McIlroy, was left red-faced after misjudging a crucial approach shot.

TGL: A New Era of Golf . But Not Without Mishaps

TGL, launched earlier this year, is a high-tech, fast-paced team competition where players hit into a simulator before chipping and putting on a specially constructed green. The format, designed to attract a younger audience, features some of the world’s best golfers in primetime, stadium-style matchups.

The Moment It All Went Wrong

On the 13th hole of the match, Tiger Woods had found the fairway with his drive. Believing he had just 99 yards left, he selected a wedge for his approach. However, the actual yardage was a far more demanding 199 yards. His shot came up woefully short, leaving Woods bewildered.

“You said 99?” he asked his teammates at Jupiter Links Golf Club as Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim erupted into laughter. The mistake proved costly, as Woods lost the hole to Cameron Young. The New York team, also featuring Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick, dominated the contest, securing a convincing 10-3 victory.

A Tough Return After Personal Loss

This event marked Tiger Woods’ first competitive outing since the passing of his mother, Kultida, who had attended her final golf event at the TGL’s SoFi Center launch on 27 January. He withdrew from last week’s Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines but spoke at the PGA Tour event about the outpouring of support he had received.

“It’s been tough process to go through, but I’ve had amazing family support,” Woods said. “All the players here this week reached out. The amount of texts, emails, and messages I got has really helped and meant a lot to me.”

Despite the blunder, Woods remains one of golf’s biggest attractions, with fans eager to see how he fares in the coming months as he balances personal challenges with his competitive return.
