UAE’s rising stars head to Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship aiming for spots in The Masters and The Open

Talented 17-year-olds Rayan Ahmed and Abdulla Kalbat will be representing the United Arab Emirates at this week’s Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Japan on October 3-6, 2024.

The tournament, which is widely regarded at the most important amateur event in Asia, will see 120 golfers from around the continent compete over four days at Taiheiyo Club – a a hillside course 100 kilometres southwest of Tokyo with views of Mount Fuji.

The winner come Sunday night will win the trophy along with invites to play in both The Masters, 2025 and The Open 2025 at Royal Portrush Golf Club, Northern Ireland.

During his practice round, Rayan said: “I have travelled a long way since Sunday afternoon where I represented the UAE in the Pan Arab Youth Golf Championships in Tunisia.

“It has taken me a few flights to get here. My body needs a little adjustment to Japan time, but I am looking forward to a big performance this week.”

Also joining Rayan and Abdulla in the field is a strong representation from the rest of the Middle East including players from Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

The competition is a joint initiative to further develop amateur golf in the Asia-Pacific region by the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation, The R&A and The Masters.

It will be broadcast live through the tournament’s website: www.aac.com
