The UAE Under-16 Girls’ Golf Team has claimed an impressive victory at the 2024 Pan Arab Ladies’ and Youth Golf Championships, capturing Team Gold at the Residences Golf Course in Gammarth, Tunisia.
Dominating the 54-hole competition, the trio of Anca Mateiu, Aasiya Saleem, and Sara Abubaker not only took home the team title but also swept the podium in the Individual Division.
Anca’s stellar rounds of 66, 66, and 70 secured her a comfortable seven-shot win, while Aasiya’s scores of 66, 73, and 70 earned her second place. Sara completed the sweep with rounds of 72, 69, and 70, cementing a clean UAE sweep at the top.
This win also marks the second consecutive triumph for the UAE squad, successfully defending their 2023 title won at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia, where Aasiya and Sara had also played key roles.
In the Ladies’ Division, Morocco’s Sofia Essakali took top honours, while the UAE’s Intissar Rich and Jamie Camero finished second and third, respectively. Jamie’s third-place finish came after a countback, rounding off a competitive contest between 20 talented players.
Morocco emerged victorious in the Ladies’ Team Division, finishing seven strokes ahead of the UAE team, and despite the gap, the UAE team’s performance remained strong, keeping the pressure on throughout the competition.
Both the Ladies’ and Under-16 divisions, played over 54 holes, were ranked World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) events supported by The R&A, with important WAGR points on the line.
In total, the championships saw participation from 11 countries, including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Tunisia, and the UAE.
