Tiger Woods set to play at the 2024 US Open

Tiger Woods is set to tee it up at this year’s US Open at Pinehurst after accepting a special exemption into the tournament.

The three-time US Open champion has struggled to walk 72 holes in recent times after suffering severe leg injuries in a 2021 car crash.

However, Woods did make the cut at last month’s Masters and went on to complete the full tournament, and is now hoping to add to his tally of 15 Majors next month.

“The US Open, our national championship, is a truly special event for our game and one that has helped define my career,” Woods said in a statement.

“I’m honoured to receive this exemption and could not be more excited for the opportunity to compete in this year’s US Open, especially at Pinehurst, a venue that means so much to the game.”

The tournament will be staged on June 13-16 at the famous North Carolina layout, where US Open titles were won by Payne Stewart in 1999, Michael Campbell in 2005 and Martin Kaymer in 2014.

This will be Woods’ 23rd US Open appearance and his first since 2020 at Winged Foot when Bryson DeChambeau was victorious.
