Officials at the European Tour have suspended Thorbjorn Olesen pending the investigation into his arrest in London on charges of being drunk on an aircraft and assaulting a female passenger while she slept.
Police waiting
The five-time European Tour winner had police waiting to arrest him at Heathrow Airport when he returned from the World Golf Championships event in Memphis where he finished 27th.
First Class cabin
It is alleged that he was verbally abusive with other passengers within the First Class area and had to be calmed down by Ryder Cup team-mate Ian Poulter. After Poulter fell asleep, Olesen is reported to have assaulted a woman and urinated in the aisle.
Court date
The Dane, 29, is to appear at Uxbridge magistrates court on August 21st on charges of sexual assault, common assault and being drunk on an aircraft, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.
The European Tour said in a statement that Olesen has been suspended pending the outcome of his case and made no further comment. Olesen’s lawyer released a statement saying the Dane had fully cooperated with police during the investigation.
Ryder Cup pedigree
The last of Olesen’s five victories on the European Tour came at the 2018 Italian Open and he played his part in las year’s European Ryder Cup victory in Paris, defeating Jordan Spieth in the singles.
