Leading Jordanian amateur Shergo Al Kurdi is 36-holes away from a place in The Open after receiving a promotion to Final Qualifying at Prince’s Golf Club.
Al Kurdi, currently ranked 241st in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, was due to have to progress through a Regional Qualifier at the same course, but due to his ranking he will bypass it and go straight to Final Qualifying on June 29th.
The youngster is the first player from the region to receive this kind of promotion and is excited to compete for a spot in the oldest Major.
“It will be a very proud moment for me to represent my country and the region to try and qualify for the oldest tournament in the world – The Open. I can assure you I will give it my best,” – Shergo Al Kurdi
Prince’s Golf Club is located adjacent to Royal St George’s, the venue for The 149th Open and qualifying will take place on the Shore/Dunes Course.
A minimum of 12 places in The 149th Open will be on offer through Final Qualifying, with a starting field of 288 golfers across the four venues – Princes, West Lancashire, St Annes Old Links and Hollinwell.
Al Kurdi has posted some promising recent results, including a fourth place finish at Heythrop Park on the Jamega Tour and a share of 15th at a two-day tournament at The Belfry on the Clutch Pro Tour last month.
