Sergio Garcia won’t feel awkward at Masters Champions Dinner

Sergio Garcia says there won’t be any awkwardness from his side at next month’s Masters Champions Dinner as LIV Golf and PGA Tour players get to set to play against one another on the biggest stage for the first time in nine months.

All previous Masters champions are invited to the dinner, meaning LIV Golf defectors Garcia, Patrick Reed, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and Charl Schwartzel will be feasting on Scottie Scheffler’s tasty menu, which includes cheeseburger sliders, firecracker shrimp and warm chocolate chip skillet cookie.

“I don’t know,” Garcia said, when asked if the Champions Dinner would be awkward.

“You’ll have to ask whoever is going to feel awkward. I’m going to feel fine. I don’t have any problems with anyone, and I try not to make a big deal out of it. I’m going to be there because I earned it, because I deserve it, and I’m going to enjoy it. I hope the rest of the guys do the same.”

One former champion who might have a thing or two to say at the Champions Dinner is 1992 champion Fred Couples.

The 15-time PGA Tour winner lashed out a host of LIV Golf players at a PGA Tour Champions breakfast last week, branding Phil Mickelson a ‘nutbag’ and Sergio Garcia a ‘clown’.

“It’s what it is,” said Garcia.

“It’s disappointing because I don’t know where he’s going with this. But it’s Freddy so he can say whatever he wants and then we can say whatever we want. I think at the end of the day his life is his life and my life in this case is my life. So, I don’t think he should comment on what me or any of these other guys should have done because we didn’t tell him what he had to do.”
