Saudi’s first pro Othman Almulla relishing Dubai Desert Classic return after 13 years

Saudi Arabia’s first professional Othman Almulla returns to the UAE to compete in the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic for the first time since 2007 when he became the youngest Arab amateur to tee it up on the Majlis course.

The smiley Saudi was only 21 when he last played here before turning professional in 2019 just as the golf scene began a huge transformation in his home country.

“It’s crazy how much the landscape of golf has changed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since I turned pro last year,” says Almulla. “Golf Saudi’s unbelievable ambitions have opened up a lot of opportunities for me to go out and chase my dreams so hopefully I show some form this week and next week in the Saudi International.”

Almulla, who recently moved to Dubai, has been the trailblazer for Saudi Golf for a number of years and is thrilled by the progress they are making in the golf scene by building new courses and attracting the top golfers in the world to the Saudi International.

“When I was 21 and last played here I was on cloud nine and never imagined this sort of event happening in Saudi Arabia but this dream has come true when we had our first one last year and this year is supposed to be even better.”

Almulla unfortunately missed the cut in the inaugural Saudi International last year but thoroughly enjoyed the experience playing on home soil in a group with Ernie Els and Andy Sullivan. He believes the event is one not to be missed next week.

“I’m hoping everyone can come out to Saudi and support the tournament and the players. It’s not very often you get the best players in the world to come out to your country and experience our golf and hospitality.”
