Rory McIlroy India – it’s a phrase golf fans across the subcontinent have waited years to hear. And now it’s official: the newly crowned Masters champion and career Grand Slam winner will make his long-awaited Indian debut at the inaugural DP World India Championship, held at Delhi Golf Club from October 16–19, 2025.
McIlroy, fresh off his emotional triumph at Augusta National – where he secured the final piece of golf’s most coveted puzzle – will tee it up in India for the very first time, adding serious star attraction to the $4 million event, the richest DP World Tour tournament ever staged in the country.

A Global Star on New Ground
With Major titles at the U.S. Open (2011), PGA Championship (2012, 2014), The Open (2014), and now the Masters (2025), McIlroy’s appearance in India marks another milestone in his globe-trotting career.
“I’m excited to not only tee it up in India for the first time but also visit a country that I’ve always wanted to explore,” said McIlroy.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing a global schedule and this is a great opportunity to help grow the game in a market with massive potential. I can’t wait to play in front of Indian golf fans.”
India’s Rise on the Global Golf Map
Backed by DP World, the event is co-sanctioned with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and marks a major step forward for elite golf in the region. It follows the successful 2025 Hero Indian Open – won by LIV convert Eugenio Chacarra – and reinforces India’s growing reputation as a key destination on the DP World Tour calendar.
DP World Deputy CEO Yuvraj Narayan said:
“Having Rory McIlroy headline this tournament is a statement of intent. India is a growth hub for both trade and talent, and sport is a powerful unifier. Rory’s presence will inspire future generations and spotlight India on the global golf stage.”
More Than Just a Tournament
The event will be the eighth of nine events in the ‘Back 9’ stretch of the 2025 Race to Dubai, leading into the season-ending DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
DP World’s investment also supports the grassroots game in India through initiatives such as the Second Life Container programme and Balls for Birdies, which help make golf more accessible to young players across the region.
