Rory McIlroy confirms return to Dubai for 2026 Hero Desert Classic

Dubai golf fans, get ready. Rory McIlroy is coming back to Emirates Golf Club – and this time as the newly-crowned career Grand Slam champion. Fresh from his history-making triumph at Augusta, the World No. 2 has confirmed he’ll tee it up at the 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic from 22–25 January, chasing a record-breaking fifth Dallah Trophy at the event long known as the ‘Major of the Middle East.’

For McIlroy, it’s more than just another stop on the schedule. Dubai has been part of his story from the very beginning – from debuting here as a wide-eyed amateur in 2006, to securing his first professional win in 2009, to thrilling fans with that dramatic comeback in 2024. Two decades on, his bond with the tournament and its supporters is as strong as ever.

“It’s been a very special year for me, and I’m excited about what’s still to come,” McIlroy said. “The Hero Dubai Desert Classic has always been one of my favourite tournaments, and I’m really looking forward to returning to Emirates Golf Club in January. I consider Dubai a second home – the support there is always incredible, and it’s the perfect place to start the year.”

More than golf – a festival for everyone

While McIlroy will draw the headlines, the Desert Classic offers far more than world-class golf. Tournament Town will once again be buzzing with live music, food trucks, kids’ activities, wellness experiences, arts and crafts, and plenty of entertainment. Whether you’re a golf nut or just looking for a great day out in Dubai, there’s something for everyone.

Tickets for every fan

Early bird tickets are now on sale – and this year organisers have made it even easier to join the action:

  • General Admission: Free entry on Thursday and Friday. Weekend tickets start from just AED 75 during the early bird window (AED 100 pre-event, AED 125 on the day). Kids 17 and under go free all week.

  • Hospitality: For a premium experience, the Dallah Lounge offers gourmet food, rooftop skyline views and prime spots between the 9th and 18th greens. Prices start from AED 1,890.

  • Social on Sixteen: Back by popular demand and now twice the size, this vibrant hub overlooks the iconic 16th hole, with four hours of free-flowing drinks, premium casual dining and unbeatable atmosphere. Early bird tickets start from AED 625.

Leading the way in sustainability

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic isn’t just about golf – it’s about setting standards. Already GEO-certified for three years running, the event will once again put sustainability front and centre. From greener transport options to waste reduction and eco-friendly operations, the tournament continues to raise the bar for sports events worldwide.

Players will also benefit from the Mental Fitness Zone, a quiet space introduced in Dubai and now in its third year, giving competitors and their teams a chance to recharge during one of the busiest weeks of the season.

“The perfect start to the year”

Simon Corkill, Executive Tournament Director, summed up the excitement:

“Rory’s return is the perfect way to launch our 2026 event. To welcome him back as Masters Champion, after perhaps the finest season of his career, underlines the prestige of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. With new fan experiences, affordable access, and a festival atmosphere, we’re making the Desert Classic not just one of golf’s great tournaments, but one of Dubai’s unmissable sporting and social highlights.”

A Dubai sporting institution

Now in its 37th edition, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic remains the Middle East’s oldest professional golf tournament and a flagship Rolex Series event on the DP World Tour. From Seve and Tiger to Rory and Rahm, the roll of honour reads like a who’s who of golf’s biggest stars – and 2026 promises to add another chapter to that legacy.
