Excitement is building among the professional golfing community in the UAE as the newly coined DSA Architects ‘Road to Mongomo’ Qualifier Presented by Worldwide Golf approaches.
The event, which is open to any professional golfer, whether they are based in the region or not, is taking place at the stunning Al Badia Golf Club in Dubai, formerly home to the European Challenge Tour’s season-ending Grand Final, on Thursday September 22.
With five all-expenses paid places up for grabs for the top finishers to fly to Equatorial Guinea in December to compete in the US$150,000 ‘3e Actuaries Open’, the tournament was already one of the most eagerly anticipated on the golfing calendar, but in signing up the prestigious DSA Architects as a title sponsor, the event has received a further boost.
As well as the five spots in the 3e Actuaries Open, which takes place December 8-11, the DSA Architects ‘Road to Mongomo’ Qualifier Presented by Worldwide Golf, which has been officially sanctioned by the Emirates Golf Federation, will feature an AED 8,000 prize fund while the AED 195 entry fee will also include F&B after the round.
“DSA Architects are delighted to be supporting Worldwide Golf and Al Badia Golf Club in the ‘Road to Mongomo’ Qualifier,” said DSA Architects Managing Director Steve Kelshaw. “It’s going to be a fantastic tournament featuring the best pros from the region and beyond. We wish all participants the best of luck.”
Abu Dhabi-based MENA Tour and Asian Tour player Luke Joy blazed the trail for his fellow UAE pros when he accepted an invite to play in the 2015 3e Actuaries Open, where he finished fourth, and he’s delighted that more of the region’s golfers are being given the chance to follow in his footsteps through the DSA Architects ‘Road to Mongomo’ Qualifier Presented by Worldwide Golf.
“The 3e Actuaries Open was a fantastic event to attend in 2015 and I know it will be even bigger and better for 2016,” said Joy. “I’m really looking forward to playing the course again as it’s a great layout and will be great to see some other professionals joining me from the UAE.”
3e Actuaries Open tournament host, Olawale Opayinka, who will be attending the Qualifier along with a TV crew from Equatorial Guinea, added: “As we continue to tirelessly grow the professional game here in Equatorial Guinea and our region of Africa, we are thrilled that this year we will be joined by more professional golfers from the UAE like Luke Joy in December. Our hearts remain wide open to welcome all to Mongomo and we believe it will be a very rewarding experience for those who make it.”
Luke Plumb, Golf Operations Manager, Al Badia Golf Club said: “We are very excited to be the host venue for the DSA Architects ‘Road to Mongomo’ Qualifier. This event is new to the region and it offers golf professionals a fantastic opportunity to qualify for the 3e Actuaries Open in Equatorial Guinea and the top five qualifiers from Al Badia will have the opportunity to play for a great prize fund. We hope this event will be a success with our partners Worldwide Golf and DSA Architects and will continue in the future.”
The five qualifiers will be flown to Equatorial Guinea on December 5, where they will stay in the luxurious five-star Grand Hotel Djibloho for the tournament week, flying back to Dubai on December 12.
The DSA Architects ‘Road to Mongomo’ Qualifier Presented by Worldwide Golf will commence with a 1.00pm shotgun start at Al Badia Golf Club on Thursday September 22, 2016.
All professional golfers are eligible to register and places will be awarded on a first come first served basis.
