Power to join McIlroy at Irish Open

Séamus Power will join four-time Major Champion Rory McIlroy in the field at the Horizon Irish Open when the popular tournament returns to The K Club in September.

The Horizon Irish Open will be played at The K Club in Co. Kildare for the first time since 2016, from September 7-10, preceded by a Celebrity Pro-Am on Wednesday September 6.

The Waterford player, who is also The K Club’s touring professional, is now a two-time winner on the PGA TOUR, enjoying his second success at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in October, following his maiden victory at the 2021 Barbasol Championship.

The 36-year-old, currently 33rd on the Official World Golf Ranking, is set to make his second consecutive appearance in the island of Ireland’s national open after playing at Mount Juliet last year.

“I’m really excited to return to the Horizon Irish Open,” said Power. “Coming back home to play last year was a fantastic experience, it was one of the best atmospheres I’ve ever played golf in. It was a truly special week having the chance to come back as a winner on Tour and share that with so many people.

“The K Club is a fantastic venue and we’re all looking forward to what promises to be a great week. You only have to look at the highlights of Rory’s win there in 2016, the crowds were out in force and I can’t wait to be a part of it later this year.”

Power was a member of the Great Britain & Ireland team at the Hero Cup in January and he now has his sights set on a debut appearance in the Ryder Cup at Marco Simone in September, taking place three weeks after the Horizon Irish Open.

History was made at the Horizon Irish Open in 2022 as a sold-out Sunday crowd saw Adrian Meronk became the first player from Poland to win on the DP World Tour – going on to win his second title at the start of the 2023 season at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open.
