Dustin Johnson’s wife Paulina Gretzky has defended her husband’s choice to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in the new Netflix show ‘Full Swing’, and insisted he is as competitive as ever.
Johnson shocked the golfing world last year after signing up to the breakaway league despite declaring his ‘full commitment’ to the PGA Tour just a couple of months earlier.
The two-time Major champion was reportedly paid “around” $125 million to join the Greg Norman fronted league.
“I don’t think Dustin would ever make bad choice for his children and people have to understand at the end of the day, that’s who he chose this for,” said Gretzky.
“Of course, I get what everyone’s saying, but my dad being a hockey player (NHL Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky).

“I’m sure as a kid, there were times when I’m like, ‘Why does my dad have to play on my birthday?’ This is about Dustin and the kids and me and taking care of us and being there with us.”
The former World No.1 hasn’t looked back since defecting, picking up $35,637,767 across seven events after winning in Boston and topping both the season-long individual and team leaderboards.
Unlike many of the other LIV golfers, Johnson hasn’t played an event outside of the breakaway circuit since joining but that will change in April when he returns to the Masters Tournament.
“If anyone thinks that Dustin has lost his competitive spirit, then they don’t know Dustin well enough because he is still ready to show you who the f*** he is,” Gretzky said.
“There is a reason why he’s going back to play these majors. He wants to win just as much as they do.”
