McIlroy’s Stands Firm Despite Alleged $850 Million Saudi Offer

Rory McIlroy has come out and quashed the rumours of his reported $850 million jump to LIV Golf despite missing out once more on The Masters.

McIlroy has been one of the most outspoken critics of the Saudi backed golf league, but his tone has softened over recent months.  Many believe the shift is a strategy to unite the cash rich Saudi Public Investment Fund backed LIV Golf League and the PGA and DP World Tours.

“I honestly don’t know how these things get started,” McIlroy said. “I’ve never been offered a number from LIV. And I’ve never contemplated going to LIV. Again, I think I made it clear over the past two years that I don’t think it’s something for me. That doesn’t mean I’ve judged people that have went and played over there. I think one of the things I realized over the past two years is people can make their own decisions for whatever they think is best for themselves. And who are we to judge them for that? But, personally, for me, my future is on the PGA Tour, and it’s never been any different.”

It looks like McIlroy still has the PGA Tour’s back, but who knows what is going on behind the scenes with Tiger Woods and their TGL golf league which is due to launch next year. Maybe the PIF are going to support this venture in addition to LIV Golf.

The only thing to remember is that anything can happen in professional golf right now.
