Justin Thomas: We have an astronomically higher amount of quality players than LIV Golf do

Justin Thomas believes their is one big difference between the PGA Tour’s 2024 schedule and LIV Golf as he responded to to Greg Norman’s comment that ‘imitation is the greatest form of flattery’ following the announcement of no cut and limited field events on the PGA Tour.

Last week’s announcement was met with plenty of backlash on Golf Twitter, with many calling out the PGA Tour for following in the footsteps of LIV Golf, whom they have been at civil war with over the last 12 months.

“I’ve spent the last year reading how good full fields and cuts are,” tweeted Lee Westwood.

Ian Poulter added: “Sounds somewhat familiar…  Now I can’t wait to hear all the backtracking of comments from the last seven months.

But Thomas was quick to point out the biggest difference between the two Tours ahead of the Players Championship.

“Well, we have an astronomically higher amount of quality players than they do in their events ,” joked Thomas, who won the Players Championship in 2021.

“I think all of us have not been shy to say that this is stuff that we’ve been trying to do and have worked on. Obviously got sped up a crazy amount due to what was going on outside.

“I mean you could say it in different ways but it’s no different than the WGCs were; there’s just obviously more than there were WGCs. We still have regular cut events. If you’re just going to single out those events and have them only be the events we have, then, yeah, it’s extremely similar. But there’s a lot more going on over the course of an entire year on the PGA TOUR than just the elevated events, I would say.”
