Josh Hill helps England Boys reach final of the European Team Championships

Josh Hill’s England Boys team continued their journey to a first European Team Championship crown after narrowly overcoming Sweden in a dramatic semi final in Germany.

England were looking good at lunchtime after a clean sweep in the two morning foursomes with Harley Smith and Josh Berry putting the first point on the board before by the double act of Hill and Frank Kennedy added another.

Smith made it three from three with an emphatic 7&6 win in his singles match to put England one point away from a first a first final since 2007. Yet that elusive fourth point was tough to come by – Hill lost out on the 16th hole, Tyler Weaver’s match was over on the 17th and Berry suffered the disappointment of losing on the final green.

It all came down to Kennedy and with the match all square on the 15th, the Portuguese Amateur champion conjured up a birdie and held that lead until the final hole.

England will now go seeking their first-ever gold medal in the Championships when they face hosts Germany in the final later today.
